Jindřichův Hradec - Castle and ChateauCastle and Chateau Jindrichuv Hradec
Built in 13th century as a fortification fortress and stronghold above the river Nežárka and pond (lake) Vajgar. The castle complex is one of the largest in the Czech Republic.

Municipal Office
The oldest part of the town with the castle is reflected in the waters of two ponds called the Vajgar and the Malý Vajgar (Small Vajgar), which are fed with water from the Hamerský brook and from the left tributary stream of the Nežárka River, which flows through the city and through the local region.
In 1961, the historical centre of the town was declared a historical monument centre. The historical centre includes a unique and well-preserved castle complex and its subsequent serf town. The town of Jindřichův Hradec has developed thanks to the wealth of its owners, who often held the highest political and social positions in the country. The campus of the Castle (the second largest after Prague Castle and Český Krumlov) speaks about the power of the Hradec Lords. The town of Jindřichuv Hradec used to be a very important trading and clothing centre and in the mid-17th century, it was the second largest city in Bohemia, right after Prague!
Since 1994, Jindřichův Hradec is considered a town with universities. For example, the Faculty of Management of the Prague University of Economy is located here.
